From 21-23 November 2023, the city of Valencia hosted the Mental Health and Wellbeing Workshop, an initiative of the EU-funded EUYouth4EUGoals project. The event, organised by Backslash, brought together young people from different European countries with the aim of reflecting on challenges related to mental health and encouraging their active participation in society.
A Space for Learning and Collaboration
The workshop was structured in a series of dynamic and collaborative activities to empower young people and provide practical tools to address mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and social exclusion. Over three days, participants engaged in open discussions, interactive exercises and teamwork to create the Youth Toolkit for Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Objectives of the workshop
Innovative Methodology
A three-phase approach – critique, imagination and implementation– was implemented, enabling participants to identify challenges, propose creative solutions and plan concrete actions. Activities such as the ‘Treasure Hunt’ and ‘Politics and You’ encouraged teamwork, critical thinking and the connection between personal experiences and global contexts.
Results and Evaluation
Participants highlighted the dynamic structure of the workshop, the multicultural interaction and the inclusive environment facilitated by the organisers. The creation of the Youth Toolkit reflects the commitment and creativity of the group, offering resources applicable in educational and community contexts.
According to the final evaluation, the workshop more than met the expectations of the attendees, who appreciated the quality of the organisation and the opportunity to exchange ideas on mental health at a European level.
This success reaffirms the importance of spaces that promote youth well-being and reinforces EUYouth4EUGoals ‘ commitment to continue fostering active participation and the development of sustainable solutions to European youth challenges.
